This lecture highlights many of the similarities and differences between the Covid-19 and mortgage meltdown crises with respect to the broad context, policy challenges and ramifications for society. We will explore such themes as the role of opacity, the underlying stresses, the nature of leverage, risk and potential insolvency challenges, the role of government, lessons from markets and policy interventions and the (potential) impacts on our society.
